Known for generations among Europe's

Welcome to the official website of Le Tonkinois.

The ancient seafaring cultures of Southeast Asia used natural oils, which they precisely cooked to preserve and protect wood.

They taught these techniques to the French colonists, and Le Tonkinois was born. It is an ancient, traditional protection method used long before the invention of modern chemical varnishes and epoxies.

Made since 1906 following proven
French tradition.

Le Tonkinois linseed oil varnish is a blend of linseed oil and tung oil, a plant oil extracted from the seeds of various South Asian plants. The components are cooked using a special process to create this unique varnish.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

Popular among the best

Professionals value Le Tonkinois. The products are widely used on many yachts and ships. For over 100 years, Le Tonkinois has been the official varnish of the French Navy for protecting wood and metal surfaces. The Royal Caribbean Cruises group also uses Le Tonkinois products for their luxury ships.

Even the legendary Onassis yacht "Christina O" featured Le Tonkinois in its 25 layers of varnish. Additionally, the products are used on various ships of the AIDA Cruises fleet.

Proven Protection Under Extreme Conditions

Le Tonkinois penetrates the wood, protecting and preserving it permanently from the inside out. It is completely natural, nourishes and integrates into the wood, and remains flexible. This varnish never flakes off, is durable, and easy to maintain. Le Tonkinois is resistant to UV light, saltwater, and abrasion. Despite its excellent properties, Le Tonkinois is entirely natural and easy to use on interior surfaces such as floors, counters, and furniture.

Best Choice for Many Surfaces

Le Tonkinois is ideal for wood used indoors and outdoors. It is also the best choice for metal surfaces, concrete floors, or other surfaces where a durable, water-repellent finish is desired.

Easy use

All layers are applied directly with a brush, roller, or spray gun. No thinner is required. For better penetration and a longer-lasting result, heat the varnish to approximately 60°C. Using wet sandpaper between layers achieves an even more brilliant finish. For wood impregnation, Le Tonkinois Bio Impression Oil is used.

Le Tonkinois is glossy but can be made matte in the final 1-2 layers using Le Tonkinois Gelomat. Le Tonkinois linseed oil varnish can be customized in color to individual preferences using natural pigments.
